Smart Grids: Between Necessity and the Lack of a Cohesive Strategy

The transformation of the energy system is becoming an inevitable reality, but the development of smart grids raises, in practice, a fundamental problem: the absence of an integrated strategic vision. Romania cannot sustain a modern energy system with infrastructure designed for the needs of the past, given the increased pressure generated by digitalization, the energy transition, and new consumption patterns.

The discussion goes beyond technical considerations and becomes one of public policy and regulation, where predictability, institutional coordination, and investment coherence are essential to avoiding structural bottlenecks.
