STOICA & ASOCIAȚII – “Professor Constantin Stătescu” Civil Law Moot Court Competition
Under what conditions can the revocation of a power of attorney be deemed unjustified, and what claims can the attorney-in-fact assert against the principal as a result of such revocation? These are the central legal issues debated by students from the Faculty of Law at the University of Bucharest during the 8th edition of the "Professor Constantin Stătescu” Civil Law Moot Court Competition, a project organized by STOICA & ASOCIAȚII and the Law Students’ Association, in collaboration with the Center for Natural Law Studies and Normative Analysis (CSDNAN), between March and May 2026.
In this year’s edition of the competition, 37 teams of two students each competed, and the top eight teams advanced to the oral arguments stage. On Saturday, May 16, the quarterfinals and semifinals took place, and on Sunday, May 17, the competition’s final was held, during which the top two teams had the opportunity to present their arguments. The entire oral argument stage took place at the Faculty of Law of the University of Bucharest, and the final was held before a jury of legal experts, consisting of Prof. Valeriu Stoica, Ph.D., Emeritus; Lecturer Ioana-Laura Toma-Dăuceanu, Ph.D.; Attorney Cătălina Dicu; Attorney Dan-Rareș Răducanu; and Attorney Yolanda Beșleagă.
The winning team of this year’s competition (first place) consisted of Ilie Daria-Elena and Abbasi Daniel, whilesecond place went to the other finalist team, consisting of Kohut Sabina-Maria and Tache Alexandru. Additionally, the final jury decided to award the individual distinction of "Best Orator” to student Kohut Sabina-Maria.
Third place went to the semifinalist teams, consisting of Mutuzac Alexandra and Petrache Runa-Ileana, and Grădinariu Maria and Horia Vasile, respectively. Special mentions in the oral arguments stage were awarded to the teams composed of the following students: Hanganu Ioan-Tudor and Băluț Vlad-Ștefan; Chiriac Maria-Alexia and Gherase Andrei Ștefan. Also qualifying for the oral arguments stage were the teams composed of the following students: Peterson Anna Sofia and Onofrei Thea Maria; Costache Ionuț Dan and Dumitru Daniel Florentin.
The students’ efforts were rewarded by STOICA & ASOCIAȚII with cash prizes and internships at the law firm.
The STOICA & ASOCIAȚII team extends its thanks and congratulations to the coordinators of this year’s edition—Attorneys Mara Colțan, Yolanda Beșleagă, Mircea Vasile, and Constantin Pintilie—as well as to the students of the Law Students’ Association for their excellent collaboration in organizing the competition (Ioana Stamatin, Andra Vrancea, Rareș Bălan, Claudiu Crăciun, Teofana Golea, Andreea Ratiș, Adriana Dumitru, Radu Oancea), as well as to the fellow attorneys involved in this project: Attorney Cătălina Mihaela Coman, Attorney Cristiana-Victoria Romanovschi, and Attorney Vlad Bărbulescu.
