New case law in the field of the protection of appellations of origin

In the article “Don Quixote from Mancha in CJEU jurisprudence: the notion of” evocation “of the protected designation of origin for cheese and other products” published on the news portal, Andreea Micu (Partner) and Ramona Badescu (Associate) analyzes the arguments of the Court of Justice of the European Union (“CJEU”) issues in Case C-614/17, which could affect labels on foodstuffs and beverages containing graphic representations of protected geographical areas of origin (PDO).

Having as guest star the much-loved Don Quixote of La Mancha, the CJEU used this opportunity to establish the protection of appellations of origin in relation to graphic representations that could suggest a link between a product and the protected geographical area by a name origin.
